W108 M130 engine Tune-up? sluggish, missfire

Hey Guys. I'm having problems finding any forum reference for an engine specific tune-up on the M130 engine. My 72 280se is sluggish, and has a constant misfire that can be heard in the exhaust. Are there any recommendations outside of the following:

Oil, filter, canister seals
Plugs, wires, cap, rotor
Converted to Hotshot pointless + coil (helped!)
timing set to 6ATDC (vac advance connected)
In-tank fuel screen, fuel filter

Thanks in Advance

You should NOT adjust the timing on idle, BUT on that timing, where the motor has to deliver MAX power. In case at 4500 RPM.

Then you should check, if the values for the other ranges are within the specs.
Only then you will know if the vac advance and or the freewheelflights corrections are working properly.

If that is all within specs and the failures are still there , then it is most likely, that your mixture is far too rich ......

set the timing at 5 BTDC , not 6 after , you will notice a big improvement , if you have a vacuum retard connection at distributor , unplug it , dont use it .that 6 deg ATDC was a emission issue .

Thanks guys. I have a blue book coming tomorrow in the mail so can use that as my reference point. Are you stating that timing should be 5BTDC statically or running at idle? Vacuum unplugged?

I have confirmed the vacuum retard works as expected in the distributor by using a mighty vac.

Thanks in Advance

Hey,

i have a 1970 280SE M130 Automatic

Did you receive your BBB. My chiltons has 2 Degree +/-2 ATDC with or without Vacuum for idle and 30Degree for 3000RPM and 4500RPM with no Vacuum.

I currently went though the process of switching to Fast electronic ignition. Cleaned my knew spark plugs as a lot of carbon deposit on it from running to rich. I think my injectors need a cleaning.

I adjusted the throttle linkage which made the car a different animal much much more responsive.

I set the timing at 6ATDC as i saw another service book recommend 8 degrees so split the difference. Will be playing around with different timing tomorrow.

Car goes full throttle with no bogging down or resistance. I still have smoke coming out the back and today it missfired twice.

Assuming still - Injectors not doing job correctly and i feel the timing is off as injectors are still a constant variable and only timing and linkage has changed. anyones 2 cents is appreciated.

does your BBB have any values for timing.
