W639 2010 ignition issues

Hi. I have just stumbled on this forum after trying to find advice on an issue with our Vito so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We have been having a problem that has been on going for a while, but it started as being annoying once every week or so but now is almost every time you turn the key.

When you turn the key to the second position it gives the ping as the warning lights come on and almost immediately gives a second ping and all the lights go out. When this happens none of the electrics work so you have to remove the key and try again. I have been sat for up to 25 minutes going through this process before the engine turns over and I can go on my way. Sometimes though, the engine will start and then you get ping and all electrics die, the engine stays on but even the rev counter doesn't work.
I have had an RAC patrol out to it and they gone through all fuses, relays and checked for any error codes and have found nothing. The same result occurred when both ignition relays were removed.

I have noticed when you turn the key to position 1 the SRS light comes on and immediately goes off and the problem is the same, but it the SRS light stays on for as long as it should do the lights stay on in position 2 and the ignition starts ok.

Several months ago I did have an issue where one fob would not unlock the doors or start the ignition which we were told required a part replaced on the ignition system but when my wife appeared with her key that worked ok so we now just have the one key to use for the time being. We are concerned that if the two are related we could he stuck altogether with no keys working.

Can anyone shed some light on this please as I am completely stumped. Many thanks in advance. Iain.
