Exclamation poly v belt -- serpentine belt

I've had quite a few direct emails recently regards the poly v drivebelt (on left hand end of engine [viewed from front])

please contact on forum so others can get benefit.

I attach PDFs for 638 639 vclass etc poly v belts including fitting and adjustment........... note you need to know which engine and equipment fitted, although its easy to work it out by looking at the diagrams.

all will print on a standard printer and worth keeping for reference

Hi there thanks for the info. I have the 638 V230 petrol and just had Merc change my damper but now when I accelerate I get a quick noise that makes me feel its the belt slipping - Merc didn't change the belt.

SO Im thinking of changing the belt. However even with this info you posted I just can't understand it

sorry

Do I need a special tool to to loosen\tighten the tension?

In simple terms what exactly do I have to do to loosen\tighten? I can see stud 4 but what do I do - turn until the belt is loosened??

Just need advice thanks

If you feel/look on the outside of the tensioner you will see a square hole (?) in the middle.

A 1/2" driver (ratchet, knucklebar etc.) will fit in there perfectly allowing you to rotate the idler until the belt goes slack.

scratch that,I can't remember now and perhaps an E10 torx bit is required (the female socket type) it's much less likely that you will have one of those.

From personal experience the springs are pretty powerful and with the limited space there you need to be careful not to slip and pinch your fingers.

Hi johny

Yeah had a feel around and yes need a e10 torx - only £4 from halfords so will get one tomorrow

Also there is a small hole that you can pop a rivet/nail into once you loosen by cranking left which will keep it slackened to get the belt off/on without having to hold the wrench

Well it sounds easy saying it but I'll soon find out in practice if that holds true lol
