Help needed to ship U1300 Germany>Canada

Hello,
I recently purchase a U 1300L 435 ex fire truck in Germany with the intend to ship it to Canada. Final destination Toronto. I 'd like to get some advise about what shipping method to choose. Container, open Flat Rack or RoRo? Maybe someone even did this trip before. I am knowledgeable about Mercedes and shipping them to Germany but a UNIMOG from Germany is all new to me.
Needless to say, I am very excited to get it here. Maybe any other MOG guys in Ontario?
Thanks

Lovely looking vehicle - congratulations !

If considering a shipping container, it will be very very tight.....

The width of a U1300L is 2.3m (without rear view mirrors).
Internal width of a shipping container is 2.34.
Possible in theory.

Height of a U1300L above cab is 2.75m.
Internal height of a “high cube” container is 2.65m.
Might be possible if you removed the roof lights & deflated the tyres.

Take a look at Sea-Bridge, a German company specialising in shipping motor homes across the Atlantic...

Let us know how you get on please, as I hope to be shipping mine across from the UK once it’s converted into a motorhome.

Dan.

Here are some photos of open flat racks with UNIMOGs on them.

Members here have shipped the Rw-1 Fire UNIMOG, which is basically the same size as your new truck, and I imagine that they will chime in. At least one of them has been shipped to Canada,

In the meantime, a few photos.

Hello; congrats on the big red beast. I shipped a U1350L from Belgium to Halifax a few years ago RoRo. If it drives and has a decent battery that's the option I'd vote for. It's much cheaper and less handling is required as it doesn't need to be manipulated into a container, loaded / unloaded with a crane, etc... Getting your butt into the cab is a straight forward process providing your paperwork clearly indicates that it is > 15 years old. Are you going to drive it to Ontario or ship it via truck/rail? If you need any local help let me know. Enjoy. Cheers from Halifax.....

Cheapest will always be roro. Back in the day I called around to several Seefracht places in Bremerhaven, and drove my (passenger) car there myself to get the best deal.

Many trucks have been put in sea cans rolling only in their brake disks to get you the height clearance.

RoRo is best for price and it’s been discussed here making a super simple operators diagram and sticking it to the windshield to indicate which levers need to be touched and which not as well as the correct location and operation of the battery cutoff, don’t want to make Halifax and find it’s stone cold dead because a deck ape got lazy and didn’t bother to kill the cut off and now they are threading to drag it off or worse grab it with a telehandler!

These, in the day when heaven was falling, The hour when earth's foundations fled, Followed their mercenary calling, And took their wages, and are dead.

Their shoulders held the sky suspended; They stood, and earth's foundations stay; What God abandoned, these defended, And saved the sum of things for pay.

Both of mine came from Germany to the East Coast via RoRo without any problems.

RW1 won't fit in a container. It is just a bit too wide. So you have the option of flat rack or Ro/Ro. 40 ft flat rack is much easier to load/unload and usually not that much more expensive than a 20ft. Ro/Ro is cheapest and it can come into Halifax but unless you can register it with temporary plates and risk driving it home, you will have to get it from the port to your place which can be costly. Sometimes getting a flat rack delivered to a local inland terminal might be cost competitive.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

I was also thinking of RoRo to Montreal (I can drive it home from there). But I read customs is a stickler there regarding dirt on the truck. But what does that mean. Anyone has experience with them?

Never mind, after researching the forum about RORO, I found that RORO is only available in Halifax not Montreal.
