Wondering About the R231 Tire Set-Up

Mine is a 2015 SL400 - but I believe this applies to all but the SL65 and those with 18 inch wheels. I was looking at the car from the side when I noticed that the overall diameter of the rear tire setup looked somewhat smaller than the front. I wonder why MB did it this way - just plain odd. The AMG sports package wheel setup (like the on on mine) is 26" front and 25.7" rear - small difference but noticeable, and not in a pretty way. The SL65 is 16" all around - better. The 18" wheels have 25.1" F and 25.9" R - probably the best looking setup. I wonder how these small differences affect handling! When I am due for tires, I think I'll try a size that would make both F/R 26" overall diameter - same as the SL65 - if there's clearance.
