2013 SL550 exhaust sound - a little louder please

My wife loves the sound of the Aston Martin with the Mercedes Powerplant. My SL is a little quieter and less...rumble-y than the AM and I was thinking about doing something about it...BUT...I don't want to spend thousands of dollars on a new exhaust.

I have seen where some people have gone to a muffler shop, had the resonators replaced with just a straight pipe. At least on YouTube it sounds really good...not too loud...and definitely more Rumble-y.

Has anyone done this to their car and if so...what are the results?

TIA

Mark

I ended up removing the mufflers and leaving everything forward. It is SLIGHTLY louder...it sounds a lot better under load, especially with the top down...but not nearly as loud as I hoped for. My performance exhaust expert says if I remove those LARGE resonators just behind the X pipe...it may sound like a trailer park Camero and be very loud.

I am torn between taking the chance on being really loud and then quieting it down or just leaving well enough alone.

If you are looking for a little louder with good bass...removing the mufflers is a cheap way to do. I spent $150 total.

Louder

Thanks. I want a little louder, but not crazy loud. A little more bass would be good.

I did a resonator delete on my previous R230 SL550, and it didn't change much. I am looking into doing something in the spring/summer, but it's quite difficult to find any aftermarket parts or videos on resonator or muffler deletes.

I have a 13 SL 550 with 22,000 miles and like you I was looking all over the place for a aftermarket exhaust that sounded good. Everything I found was not worth the money almost cheaper to sell it & get a SL63 by the time you add up all the cost. Hereís what I ended up doing. I went to a small mom & pop muffler shop and had them remove everything from the rear. I had 2 Magnaflow Exhaust installed. I spent $245 thatís with them supplying the 2 new exhaust and running new piping to tie back in. Itís night & day from OEM. I have photos and videos of the installation if anyone would like to see them just let me know on here. Iíll also post a video of what it sounds like. I had it installed about 8-9 months ago and havenít had any problems at all.
