What part is this for replacement....

This little spring loaded flap broke off. It's located on the driver side like right behind your outside shoulder on the convertible part. If the top is down its easy to see. It's the flap that gets pushed up by the main hinge on that side when the roof goes up or down. Looked at some diagrams but can't seem to locate this part. Seems like the plastic clips just broke off from age and stress would be my guess.

Any help would be appreciated. I don't even know what you'd call this part.

There's hundreds of posts about this flap and loads of ways to fix it.

Some use fishing wire and attached a rubber band to pull it down.

Some drill holes and use thin guitar string.

I repaired mine with thin cable ties, pretty straight forward.

Thanks,

I did find those threads shortly after creating this thread. Seems to be a common failure.

The worst part is that if you lose the part, you won't buy it from MB separately.

I noticed that.

I see a lot people bitching about the part when it was $275 to $350. Well do to time this panel is now anywhere from $900 to $1300 on avg. A few used ones are even $500+.

Thank god I didn't lose the flap.

I saw some replacements available on ebay, but for sure they don't fit your trim color.
The best option was to make these from aluminium

The same thing happened to our 2006 SL500. I found the entire wing piece but it was too expensive. I'll be watching this thread for sure.

There is a gentleman down in Fla. that sells you a flap and the color leather to match your car. I bought it for $125.00

If you still have the flap its an easy fix.

I just drilled two small holes in the plastic where the clips are and stripped the paper/plastic off of bread/buns twist tie. Looped that through the metal rod on the flap and then ran it through the drilled holes and twisted the twist tie tight and done. Isn't spring load any more but the weight of the flap itself just keeps it shut.

I also found someone on ebay sells kit for like $90 to fix this also. https://www.ebay.com/itm/SPANGLER-RE...-/113023313400
