Vario Roof „Locked in driving mode”

Hello guys!

I have this error "Locked in driving mode" which doesn't allow to operate the roof. Any ideas what is this error about? What sensors give signal to Vario Roof computer that would cause it to show that warning? Speed sensor? Any help much appreciated!

I'm not aware of this message, though it would seem to be suggesting the top is inoperable because the car is in motion. I wonder if the message is in another language, and you have translated it into English.

Help others to help you by supplying your location as well as the model and year of your car. If you input that information into your profile it will automatically appear with each and every post you make.

You wonder if it could be a speed sensor. Maybe you are thinking the roof controller considers the car to be in motion when in fact it is stationary. But if this were the case, then I believe it would be reflected by your speedometer display.

Thank You for new joiner tips !

The warning is in English and the car is US version bought in USA.
This is exactly what I think - somehow car thinks it's in motion and doesn't allow the top to operate. However I can't find much on the internet abut that warning. I already checked CAN interface with multimeter and it looks OK. Somebody maybe have some diagram which shows how the module is controlled?
What possibly could cause that warning?

I glanced through my owner's manual for MY2004, and I don't see your message described anywhere.

Presuming it means the roof controller believes the car is in motion, then I presume the problem is in the SBC or ESP controllers, a wheel speed sensor, or wiring. In all of those cases I would expect to see speedometer error or an error indication for ESP, ABS, or SBC in the instrument cluster.

A $265 Chinese-cloned Star Diagnosis kit from aliexpress.com coupled with a $50 Dell D630 laptop likely would tell you the cause of your problem in 15 minutes or less.

I have the same message in my '07 SL550, although once I stop the car and have my foot on the brake it works just fine.

FWIW, my '05 SL500 did not have this message, it just didn't work if the car was in motion.

This message means you presses roof opening/closing button while the car was in motion. Just do it one more time, when its stationary. But after stopping you should release the switch and press it one more time while the car is stationary.

If it doesn't work, search for errors via diagnostic software.
