06 SL65 Rear Diff Fluid

Went to the parts desk at the local dealership to get the rear diff fluid for my 06 SL65. I was kinda surprised when the service manager came back with:

Castrol Syntrax 75W-140 Limited Slip

I was expecting some thing from AMG, or at least from Germany. Anyone else have experience with this fluid for our rear diff? I picked up 1.5 liters at the bargain basement price of $80

All in all it is just a limited slip diff. Many lubricants will work just fine.

When I change mine I will go with Redline.

60 bucks per liter and still dont feel special enough?

BTW, oil and other fluids are simply re bottled products made by other major oil companies, sometimes special mixes per maker specs...

But no maker I am aware is large enough to make its own fluids...

are you sure?

I know its an open in SL55, and package 030 starting in 2006 offered limited slip, along with other bits and pieces for a small fee of $14K...

did SL65 get it in all years?

I believe all SL65s have the AMG limited slip diff (locks up to 40 %). I think its the same diff as the SL63 P030 performance package.

I have the full synthetic Castrol Syntrax 75w-90 in my Vito W639 although that hat has an open diff. It has the appropriate MB specification number. I think you were overcharged. I buy it from the local auto parts store. They have the Syntrax 75W-140 LSD as well. That was about $20 per litre.

any idea about drive ratios? this will be a great retrofit for the butt wobbly, tail happy SL55 standard (no 030)

From what I know, the 65 locks 30% and has a delay. It will still benefit from an LSD upgrade ala Quaife or similar as they lock 60% and without delay.

Didn't you get your M-B ownership privileges revoked due to poor treatment? Like leaving them out in the cold snow?

Lets do a group buy...

Like this post if interested, we can can gather 5-10 buyers, maybe we can negotiate a good price with Quaife...
