Unhappy Advice needed - Roof latch cylinder failing to latch

So I went through the process of replacing the piston rod seal with a seal purchased off of eBay, following instructions that I found here. After I assembled everything, the roof would not operate correctly. I figured it need more hydraulic fluid, so following a guide here, I was able to access the pump reservoir and added the correct MB fluid until the roof was able to complete it's cycle of raising & lowering the roof/trunk components completely.

But it appears that the latch cylinder is not holding pressure - it latches the latches to lock the roof in place, but then seems to 'relax' and releases pressure so the latches back off from being completely closed.

Looking at this diagram - I don't think it is not sealing around #9 - the piston seal.

The image seems to indicate that the piston seal is almost a rubber gasket. I didn't take any pictures when mine was disassembled, but I seem to remember that this was more of a metal bushing on the piston.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to trouble shoot this - or what my next step is? Is it possible to just purchase the piston? Without the whole latch cylinder?

TIA
Craig
