Thanks for the link Pascal. I did a search but could not find anything solidly technical. My french is a bit rusty but is a good start . And your pics are great!
I presume you were the one that wrote the article. Congratulations.
Do you know what is the internal combustion ratio of the engine as used in the SLK? Is the water pump a proper steel rotored one or is it one of those plastic jobs??? Do you know any details about the chargecooler core and its thermal efficiency?

etyu. Ianx seems to be on a business trip I think. I will try to PM him as you say if he has an technical documents. I know that there are at least 3 versions of the m271 engine but cannot source anythic specific and decently technical about the one on the slk .!

Really technical data, I don't have any...

But, I know the engine have different power but I'm not sure it's the same M271 :
- 90 kW without Kompressor for Classe C
- 105 kW within C Coupé
- 120 kW for SLK
- 135 kW in new Classe E

I already try to get some informations from Mercedes but I don't have any answer. Opel was much more friendly and send me all technicals data for the engin of my Coupe 2,2l 16v. Everything was written : material for each part, weight, shaft timings, etc.

I have also done a lot a search but don't find what I want. I suppose you look for it for some engine tuning ?

Pascal_TTH. Yes I am looking into some tuning but since I live in a country that is very warm (and have experience with running turbocharged cars here) I need to make sure that the peripherals of the engine are up to the task.

The factory chargecooler will most possibly not be up to the task and will need replacement with a custom made intercooler (pro-alloy being my favourites with my experience in tuning cosworth engines ).

I am looking at the kleeman conversion, complete with header, that ups the output of the engine to about 235 hp.

Roots compressors and especially the m271 derivative used in the c-class run quite high temperatures ,so installation of proper cooling is a must.

That's why I am trying to find detailed technical manuals/data on the m271 engine used in the slk. That, and love for all things mechanical

bejak, thanks for the figures. Are there more than one derivative for the 200 kompressor engine? most probably.... The new facelifted 200 kompressor e-class has an ouput of 179 hp from its m271 engine...

Compression ratio would matter depending on the extra boost applied to the engine .

The slk has a terrific chassis and really needs some engine tuning and an LSD to become a proper sports car. Of course it has to be many things to different people, so its full potential is untapped as it initially emerges from the factory.

Hello ierax,

https://www.benzworld.org/forums/r171...rformance.html

We are looking for the same thing ! I read a lot about want I can do to the engine. Most tuner offer to change pulley with a smaller to make the eaton rotates faster and bring more air. All this engine tunings come with a sport air filter ad an ECU remap excepted Carlson. It gives about 200 hp and from 260 to 305 Nm (according to them, no dyno graphics). Second stage often tells about changing intercooler and even waterpump pulley (if I remember well). After, it's still possible to change exhaust and/or camshafts.

In Belgium, new E-Class runs with M271 engine with 184 hp and 250 Nm (from 3500 rpm to 4000 rpm). I suppose it's the same engine or nearly. 184 hp can be nice enough for me. So I try to found more about this engine to see what's the difference (only ECU ou ECU and pulley or more).

I would like first to have more torque or keep 240 Nm but 500 rpm lower. Second, it will be aos niceto keep the torque higher after 4000 rpm. 260 Nm @ 3000 rpm and about 185 hp @ 5500 rpm is my target. Not too hard for the engine.

I still haven't found a serious tuner in Belgium to do the job that I want.

PS : It's hard to find technical datas on Mercedes engines. It's easier with other brand very common like Opel, Peugeot or Renault.
