Bad day today

just went in for my first A service. I also had the bas esp light problem and my xenon's alinment was messed up. well today i told them that i wanted mobil 1 but they put castrol oil in. is there a difference ? also i had my side bumper lenses painted silver and when i got my car back they took them out and put the original orange one's back one. that made me even more pissed. and also my xenon's are worse now they only shine about 7 feet in front of me. tommorrow i have to call and complain. today wasn't a good day for me. but does the mobil 1 and the castrol make any difference and when i get the next oil change can i go back to mobil 1. ohh yeah i have a 2002 SLK 32 AMG.

Castrol..

I'm not a fan of Castrol, but if the dealer used Castrol Syntec, then I'd leave it in since it's approved by Mercedes-Benz.

I was under the impression that all AMG cars get Mobil 1, regardless of what oil the dealer uses in non-AMG cars. Maybe that's not the case as I haven't seen it written down anywhere.

Brian, my service advisor told me last time...

...that if I specifically wanted Mobil 1 in my 32's engine, he suggested that I bring it in myself because they now use a different less expensive 'synthetic' oil brand! Hope I'll get credit though!

I've tried Castrol Syntec and Pennzoil's version before in my other 560SEC. Like you Brian, I'm not particularly impressed with Syntec's oil quality after 5k miles in comparison to Mobil 1. Looked just as dirty and dark (oxidized) as dino oil, whereas Mobil 1 in the same engine maintained a clean, medium chestnut color up to 7.5k miles!

As discussed in this forum in great detail before, the other brands are only termed 'synthetic oils' based on a technicality and a threat of big lawsuit against the API.

I was told that Mobil 1 was mandated for the AMG cars.....

My dealer has both in stock, but the Mobil only goes into the AMG cars, Castrol goes in the rest.
Since there is a sticker on the front crossbrace in the engine compartment that says something about Mobil 1 being reccommended, I think I would go back and raise some hell.

Did they give you back your painted lenses???

Replacing the oil with Castrol is crap. They should have done what you asked or worked out something like Butch's deal (bring your own oil)

Where is Euro Motors?
