MAF, AMS , AFM etc

MAF Mass Air Flow,
AMS Air Mass Sensor
AFM Air flow meter

Are all terms used in naming the Air sensor in the intake tube.
These can make many a defect in our vehicles from a slight drop in power to a major change bringing in the limp home mode[:0]

I have been researching many web sites on the MB MAF and have concluded the following.
All the Bosch inserts appear to have the same part number. F 00C 2G2 025
Inserts made by either Bosch or Pierburg.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8030452466&sspa gename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT
http://www.x-desk.net/ximages/21302_pgsi0079en.pdf

The Pierburg PDF ref above is quite handy and also mentions problems with oiled filters.[:I]

I would like others to open the sensor from their MAF using a security torx to see if the part number is the same and you post results here.
There may be 2 Bosch part numbers so checking will help all.
The insert is a fraction of the whole assembly price .
Pix below were from a 1998 SLK 230 and an W202 2000

Mine, from a 1999 SLK 230, has a Bosch number F 00C 2G2 001 on it, I just replaced it a month ago after 36000 miles.

I dropped the guy an email, he does state it works for a 99slk, so this could be a cheap alternative!

I was thinking the same thing. My car has about 36K miles and I don't think the MAF sensor has ever been changed.

RE: MAF, AMS , AFM etc

Just opened up my recently dead MAF from my 98. Original equip with Appox 24,000 miles. I tried to clean it which got me to and from work but that was about it. Replaced it and wow![:0]Hard to read ellement numbers but looks like... Bosch F 00C 2G2 001 Made in germany 816 / 769 02 1 A Replacement was bought online, Bosch 0 280 217 114 so I assume the guts are the same. I can pull if needed. Great research, hope this helps. [:D]

RE: MAF, AMS , AFM etc

Hello Guys,

First of all, thanks for all the useful information that you've been sharing in this forum. Are the MAF sensors for the 230 & 320 the same? My car had a CEL and code P0173 (vent leaks or faulty MAF sensor) showed up when I had Advance Auto Parts in my area pull the code. How do you check vent leaks?

Thanks,
Al
