driver side mirror different from passenger side mirror?

newbie here w/ a question...

i recently brought home a limited edition slk230 & was wondering if the driver side mirror is supposed to be the same size as the passenger side mirror...b/c mine is not. it's slightly smaller & has no writing on the bottom.

No, the drivers mirror glass is smaller and without writing on the bottom.

Probably beacuse you are a lot closer to the driver's mirror for viewing, but I'm sure one of our "experts" will step in here with the real reason [;)]

Passenger side mirror on some models is a magnifying mirror. Small printed words read something like:
:objects in mirror are closer than they seem:

RE: driver side mirror different from passenger side mirror?

Right idea but wrong direction. Magnifying mirror trades a more limited field of view for magnification ... objects appear bigger than they are.

The passenger mirror is the opposite of magnification trading wide field of view for smaller images ... objects appear smaller than they are.

RE: driver side mirror different from passenger side mirror?

The driver side is also a dimming mirror (it has a black grommit around it), the passenger side is not a dimming mirror (no black grommit. So the driver side might appear to have a smaller reflecting area (disreguarding flat vs convex properties).
