Scanner for a 1998 R129?

I have been looking for a scanner for my 1998 SL500. I have looked at a lot of them, and every one of them except the C3 does not list the R129. Even the writeups on the C3 say prior to 2000 it may not talk to all systems. My problem is resetting the airbag light. I actually stupidly induced a fault and now that I have it all back together, I would really like that idiot light out, and not just unhooking the lamp. As example, on the Foxwell, they write me back and tell me that the Schwaben is the one I need, but it does not list the R129. Then I asked them if I could return it if it did not work and the only response I got was the sound of crickets ... It does list just about every other MB model. Have I just ended up with a beast that won't talk to anyone except the Stealer? At 175 per hour, I am not in a mood to pay them to drink coffee.

Suggestions please !!!

C3 with Xentry 2015 will work no matter if the seller list showes it or not.
Better choice is a c4 with Xentry 2016.
There have been cable issues with Chinese c3's lately specially on older models.
Further with the c4 you can run the software in win7 not xp and it will work on almost any laptop no need to stick to a old dell d630.
If you pm me your Vin I double check on my system.

Apparently I need three more posts, so here is one ...

My VIN is: WDBFA67F5WF161310

1998 SL500.

As I understand it, this particular year was a change one for them as some signals are on the under dash and some on the round connector under the hood.

Dude, I'm loving mine! Best 200 bucks spent.

That's a hefty price to pay for what looks to be simply an OBD-II scanner. This thread seeks the Holy Grail of diagnostic tools for Mercedes: a $300 Chinese-cloned Star Diagnosis System which can communicate with all vehicle systems including the roof controller.

Is it? I don't think so as I've had this device for a while now and I use it on many brands of cars pre and post 95.

OBD1 and OBD2

By legal mandate OBD-II must be universal, so naturally it will work on many brands of cars.

You replied to another thread where someone paid $50 for a reader which communicates from the OBD-II port to a phone-based interface over WiFi with no cables.

If you own your car long enough I believe you are likely to find yourself with a non-working roof that requires a diagnostic to restore operation. Your $200 reader probably won't be up to the task, since I believe it can not communicate with any non-OBD-II-compliant systems. In that case you want Star Diagnosis.

Apparently, 1998 - 1999 was the transition. Before that line, the OBD only had basic functions which are interesting, but not very. In 1999, they added most of the signals you need. So, the question still is, what scanner, if any, can read the 98 and reset the airbag light?

No they didn't. The only way to access DAS, ATA, PSE, SRS, RCV, etc., is through the 38-pin diagnostic connector located under the hood. The communication protocol is not OBD-II for those connections.

Okie Dokie ... I have a friend that has one of the off brand scanners in his shop for which he paid a small fortune. We hooked up the 38 pin to his scanner and lo and behold, it would not access the airbags. He told me that he had recently used it on a variety of vehicles, mostly Mercedes. Mine was the first 129 and the only one that had a problem. That is why I put together that when the manufacturer does not list the 129, there is a reason. So, taking that difference into account, what scanners WILL see it? Has anyone actually worked on the Airbag unit on a 99?
