How to remove ignition key if transmission can not be put in park?

Are there any electrical connections/wires which can be altered to make the ignition circuit think the transmission is in Park position, so the key can be removed? Any other tricks for key removal? Thanks!

The key lock feature is mechanical via a Bowden cable between the lock cylinder housing and transmission shift selector, which only allows the key to be removed once the selector lever is in park position.

Of course the park position can only be obtainable if the brake pedal is pressed to enable you to shift to park. I cannot recall whether this feature is controlled electrically via the brake switch or mechanically via a cable. Nevertheless you can check yourself whether this lock is operating properly by listening for the click sound around the gear shift lever when you depress the brake pedal.

Remove the panel over the brake pedal.

Look up to the ignition switch, you will see on the passenger side, a 13mm nut/bowden cable.

Remove the nut.

Now the key should come out.
