ADS1 normal working

Hi,

My name is François, I live in France.

I have a 1992 500 SL. Suspension works fine, there are no leaks but I have a doubt concerning how it should work.

When I push the button closed to the light switch, the car raises as it should.

My question is : should it go down immediately when you disable the function with the button or is it necessary to drive the car to return to the standard height ? In my case, I need to drive it to lower the body, the car never goes down when parked.

Thank you in advance, I am not requiring technical help, just your opinion.

Regards,

François

Thumbs up

Hi Pazo,

Thanks for your answer, I read some of your post and you know quite well the system. I am pleased to read that my car works fine ! I saw a car with ADS 2 which could go up and down without driving and that put me in the wrong.

The different designs between ADS1 and ADS2 should explain that.

Pazo,

Just to be sure : after rizing, a SL class with ADS1 can't return to the usual height at idle. The only way is to drive the car.

Correct ?

Many thanks,

Well François,

I think sinking just takes much longer time than raising the car. ADS1 seems to work that way even if the front and read level rods under the car respond to height switch raised/normal setting promptly. Also, after more than two decades, the rod joints tend to have some play and therefore, when driving the SLS valves find the car’s “normal” ride height level faster. I believe an idling car will eventually lower somewhat even without moving – but I have not made any accurate observations myself.

In the later ADS2 ride height control is fundamentally different even if most suspension components (struts, spheres and damper valves) are basically same.

Hope I managed to address your question?

Thanks Pazo,

Some R129 users here in france told me that my car should go up and down idling. So I was affraid that the main hydraulic block was clogged...

I am now reassured

Anyway, I will drain the circuit.
