Squeaking Top

My soft top has gotten little too squeaky when going up and down. I'm not sure what exactly is the source of the sound.

What's the best treatment to try to quiet the squeaking? Silicon spray maybe?

Mine too.. But it is still misaligned, so maybe that's it. I'd assume the sound is just the joints where it bends needing some WD-40 or something.

This squeaking sound was possibly coming from the springs… all is quiet now.

I think the springs make this noise too. I have tried sprays it seems to help a little but my next trick is going to be silicone grease on the spring anchors.

I sprayed silicone at the joints - wouldn't use a petroleum-based product like WD-40

I would agree with not using any petroleum based product, specially near any rubber seals. I've been using Honda Shin-etsu Silicone Grease for years in all cars, affordable, last a long time and seem to work very well on all rubber seals https://www.amazon.com/Honda-Genuine...ag=googhydr-20

I wouldn't use WD-40 on any parts of the frame. As already mentioned it's bad on rubber. It would be ok on the springs I suppose but potential run-off could stain headliner, upholstery etc.

I used silicone spray on the joints then put the rug under the springs and sprayed them generously. After cycling top up and down couple of times squeaking was gone. For now at least.

Maybe thicker silicone grease would keep them quiet longer?

Mercedes makes a special lubricant for top squeaking. I can't find my supply of it or I'd post the p/n. I used it on my hardtop seals where they touch the body and it is effective.

Yes, there is a "magical" lubricant from MB: Spezial Gleitmittel, A0009893660 $60 1.0 fl.oz little droplet bottle, specifically for anything squeaky, rubber or plastic related. Also a Silkonpaste A0009898451 and finally Gleitpaste (mostly for sunroof lube use) 0019894651, under $100
