R129 fobs in the US have a 140 PN. Now the "key" question for the one available in the U.K. Is "is this a fob with or WITHOUT the chip for imobilizer?" Cars before about 1997 in the U.S didn't have the imobilizer, after did. I don't know about what was going on in other countries.

If it doesn't have an imobilizer chip, not much good for U.S. cars MY 1997 and later. All it would do is lock/unlock the car but not start it unless you had a fob that didn't lock/unlock but still had the imobilizer chip in it that you could swap out.

The guy from the Facebook thread says that they had to code the key to the car at Mercedes Benz, so I’m assuming it has the immobiliser. Also, looks like somebody else chimed into the thread with news that they got a key too.

UPDATE: Nevermind, looks like his car is a ‘96. Think that leaves us ‘97-02 people in the dark still.

Nice to see a new one-button key fob! I only have one (plus a master key)...so I'd like to pick up a spare.

I believe that the 1st guy to post he got one on the Facebook page received a 3 button, or 4 if you include the panic button. There is a pic and an invoice posted with a 140 part number.

lots of dealers will say you need to code the remote to the car even without imobilizer. The "coding" in that case is syncing the remote to the locks.

and even with the imobilizer at least in the U.S. the dealer does NOT need to code the key or imobilizer to the car. that's done when you order the key. the use one of the 8 or so open slots and match it up.

Before the keys and remotes became unavailable I ordered keys and remotes for both my 97 R129 and my 97E420. In all cases I picked up the keys/remotes at the dealer and synced the remotes, put the key in the ignition wait a few minutes if needed and everything is working. No dealer effort involved other than the parts guy ordering the parts.

Hello Everyone!

For a first post on benzworld I figured I might shed some useful light on the matter

I've been waiting for keyfobs and master keys for my W210 E200 which is DAS 2a for over a year now and have been receiving nothing but NLA...until a month ago where the Service Advisor phones me and tells me that they are taking orders again.

I head to my local dealership (i'm in Lebanon, the country not the county) and order one infrared keyfob and one Master Key (including the transponder).

I received them over a week ago and it was plug and play, just took the infrared keyfob from the counter, unlocked and started the car and I was on my way out.

Part Number for the infrared keyfob was: A 210 760 13 06

Can't recall what the master key was, I'll update this when I have it.

These are the single button that were on the R129, W140, W202, W210 and R170 as of 6/96 up to 3/97 so basically all MY97 cars.

Starting production date 3/97 the R129, W140 & R170 got upgraded to a three button key (that was DAS 2b).

I believe this is only true for the W210 and the others, at least the R129, got the 3-button a couple of months later when MY98 production started.

Anyway, that's not really what I came here to say... I came to say I got my key today! After 1.5 months since I placed the order. 1-button transponder key for my US import MY97 SL600.

I wasn't sure if the key would work at all as the car didn't come with any original keys, but only aftermarket copies, so I didn't know what had been done to the DAS module, or if one of the keys I had had been coded into the same slot as the new MB original. Luckily all went well and the key works as it should.

So hang on, North America, the keys will surely be available there too soon as I was able to get one for my car that has a US VIN.

So looks like 1 button up to 96 are available in europe with A140760 2006. Usa cars had also 1 button up to modely 96. From 97 usa cars have 4 buttons and in finland usa 97 app can be ordered with A140760 3306 or 3806 depending inv or order...
question is if with the facelift 2 from my 98 onwards key system changed again. My usa 99 is 4 buttons.
