center console locked tight

Hey guys, I have a problem getting my center console lid to flip open, the central locking seems to only unlock it on rare and unexpected occasions. Any suggestions on how to get it open (or into it) are appreciated and how to fix the problem even more so..... thanks! Rick

When unlocked (but stucked close) try to use a thin screwdriver or plastic wedge under the rear edge while you push the button to open. The rear locking tab has more play in it. When open, remove the vacuum line and plug it. You won't have locking then. Lube the whole mechanism with silicon grease.

Try and put the key in the ignition or start the car. It should unlock

Hi, the tab you need to push in is at the rear, left. See arrow in picture.

Cheers

I had that happen twice. All this clever engineering - security locks by vacuum - that go south at 20+ years.

I was locked out.

The first time, I was able to release it by using the remote and locking/unlocking the car several times. It locked again a few weeks later and I had my friend at the shop - once he could break into it (he didn't tell me how he finally did it - maybe Ruindr's tab? but he disengaged the locking mechanism so the lid just opens and closes freely now. No latch.

Wasn't a good feeling having my registration - and service records - in there where I couldn't access.
