Magnaflow Catalytics Anyone ?

I'm finally needing to replace Cats on my 1999. I think there are four, so the first thing to do is figure out which one is rattling. I think it is one of the rears, which are replaceable with cut out and reweld technique.

If so, I was thinking of replacing both rears with Magnaflow performance types.

Anyone done that and note a sound change at the tailpipe ?

Thanks

May I ask what the mileage is on you SL? Also, I'd be interested to hear if there is a sound and/or performance difference once you have them installed.

Mileage is 58K, gently babied for 20K miles I have had her (8 years). This year, I stomped it a couple of times, just to show moma that my car has some grunt. Now my left rear cat rattles on deceleration. Sounds like little marbles. Glad it wasn't the front ones that have the o2 sensors (4 total).

The replacements are on the way here to the house, then down to the indy. Will report on the sound and performance.

I got to say, the wife's 2006 911 is nice to drive (manual), but the merc is a solid car with a great ride, just as good a stereo (she has the bose), same gas mileage, and more low end torque, naturally. I'm actually digging its looks more each year of ownership.

Given a choice, one or the other, would you keep the 911 or the SL500? I get the itch quite often to get a 997.2 or a 991, but I'd have to get rid of the R129, which I think would be difficult to let go of.

Bad decision...if you have to have one car (we have the 997.1 with manual), you can sell your R129 for 10K or so and pay 40K at least for a 997.2. Its only money. The 997 experience is cool for sure.

The Porsche weighs about 3300 lbs and has 345 hp, so any car like that is going to feel good if you stiffen up the suspension and have a manual.
