My top is in very good condition, even the windows.

The only part that shows wear is the bottom edge of the rear bow which is frayed somewhat from going into and out of the top well.

2-piece top, what will MB think of next.

I don't suppose we could just buy the back half from MB.

Hey LZ,

Can you take and post or send me pictures of your top plastic. I'd like to see how it held up, I've heard nothing good from people that have gotten that kit.

Thanx.

I don't know exactly what you mean and I know you weren't addressing me but since you're in the convertible capital of the east coast, I'm sure if it's just the small bar or piece you might be able to have some convertible top repairer to wrap it. They always have extra fabric as well, might even be able to match it.

I have a rule, I go to Mercedes for nothing, unless absolutely necessary, my mechanic is light years smarter with my older Benz than anyone there. And he can always round up parts and reman's that saves me thousands everytime. But post a picture of the problem, the people here are great in helping and offering advice.

Most soft top repair specialists will remove the rear part to replace the plastic windows - and in order to remove the rear part one needs to remove most of the front part too

Much easier to replace the whole bang shoot and enjoy trouble free for the next 10 to 15 years.

In the USA there are quite a number of companys that supply various qualities of material at obvious various dollar amounts.

Google is your friend

Thanks for your comment rory.

But there's a guy in Germany that disagree's with you. Same guy that after I saw his video started me looking for someone to replace, just my plastic windows. Since not all of us are as affluent as you to replace a perfectly good canvas because the PVC has failed.

And just as Google is your friend, so is youtube - all that are interested in just the rear plastic window replacement, may find the below video as interesting as I did. I'm still searching for competent people in the NY/NE area to replace just my plastic windows.

Enjoy.

Yes I saw that video amongst the many others whilst I was doing my due diligence for my top cracked windows.

Good luck

its under the hard top now and i have no place to store my top
If you do this take your time hand sewing, pin up the corners and the 4 centers,
let it seat for hours in the hot sun
the hard part is when your hand sewing and you have to flip the top lower part, back and fourth. Yes i did it with the soft top on the car. took almost 8hrs to do.
After your done seal the stitching . use something that is good of boat tops. LZ
all look for pics.LZ

Well when you take off the hard top, maybe you can pass along a few pictures of your top and some closeups.

But no way, I just can't do it myself, physically that is. Just wondering if I could convince a shop to do it - but am striking out.

I'm really considering selling the R129 and getting the next model with the retractable roof, that's my wish. But my wife loves this damn car.
