M120 timing chain help needed

Dear R129 fellows,

I need help. Hoping someone with a SL600 knows the trick.

In short, I posted my problem on the W140 sometime ago

The thread has long been dead -- only one lister gave me some useful comments.

I've tried everything in the manual and what was suggested. Was hoping that the idea to "make sure that chain to you right is all tight, even if camshaft needs to be slightly off the perfect base position" will work, but it did not. The chain between Bank 2 exhaust and crank sprockets is very tight, no room there.
I don't think I can gain any more chain length by rotating the cams.

I also tried to see if I can perhaps do it without the chain guides (top L and R) but this did not work either.

As you can sense it, I am desperate. I've been trying unsuccessfully for over 2 months to put everything back together. At this point, I've started contemplating removing the front cover. This thread from 2007 details how the chain/guides were replaced without even messing with the cams

Although I will admit that in my case, tearing down the front will be an overkill given that my guides and chain are nearly perfect.

Please help if you can. Many thanks in advance.

If the intake cams are not set to fully retarded position, there will not be enough slack on the timingchain for the installation of the exhaust sprocket on on the camshaft on RH-side.
There are no marks, intake cams must be turned CCW to stop position when checking/adjusting the timing.
I was struggling with this, since I was not sure what position means "fully retarded".
