So I'm just now getting around to reading your replies. My only brother was in a terrible house fire, and eventually died from his wounds. I'm the only relative. So it fell on me to take care of him. I saw the post regarding the phone. I removed the phone a few years back, but I remember when I put everything back together after repairing the mirco-switch that I may have plug the jacks back together in the center console. With the phone being removed, is it possible for it to still power up?

Sorry to hear about your brother.
What I was saying about the phone is : If the hand phone unit was unplugged while it was still powered ON, then the antenna will act as if the phone is ON and stays UP (even if you turn the phone OFF later when unplugged). So to reset : you need to have the hand unit plugged into the car, then power it OFF, and the 'system' will know the phone is OFF.

Yesterday afternoon I got around to checking out the phone connections and wiring. The phone is not connected, nor did I see any broken or pinched wires. Interesting I disconnected the amp and turned on the radio and then turned off the ignition and pulled the key and the antenna worked like its suppose to. But when I have the amp pulled in the antenna remains in the up position even when I pull the key.
Something else that happened along about the same time. The speedometer quivers whenever you turn the key on for a few seconds. Also when you use the turn signal the sometimes the speedometer drops to 0 and the battery light come on. Just wondering if those are connected some how?

The same blue wire from the head unit (mentioned in post # 8) controls both the AMP and the antenna. When signal is present in the blue wire, it turns ON the AMP and also sends the antenna UP.
So if you just want to play music with the antenna down, you can patch in a simple switch to isolate signal from that blue wire from the antenna. Or you can use what @dbischoff suggested in post # 9 to modify the circuit and that will do it automatically.

I do have an after market Pioneer that one of my sons. I prefer the original one. I've have in for the past several years and never had any issues until this. I thought that when I got around to it, I would get the factory radio repaired. Until then, I'm just using this one. I appreciate the response. I'm going to pull the radio and check out behind it. The control wire may have come loose.

Let me bounce this off of you.
#1 Antenna retracts when the key is pulled whenever the amp is disconnected.
#2 Whenever amp is connected the antenna stays extends and amp is powered (draining the battery) unless pull the connection to amp.
Summary: The problem is isolated to the connection between the amp and antenna?

Explain what you mean by : Pull, connected and disconnected. Are you talking about Power being ON and OFF ?

As long as the AMP is POWERED ON, the antenna WILL GO UP.
When I say Powered ON, I don't mean the AMP is simply plugged into +12V.
The AMP is turned ON when there is signal in the blue wire and the same signal on same wire raises the antenna.

Then the antenna is also controlled by the phone 'system'
The the phone system is ON the antenna will be up and ready to receive calls. It doesn't matter if your hand held unit is unplugged or not. So you need to plug the hand unit back on, then power it off and the 'system' will then know it is OFF. If you unplug it when its power is ON, the system will treat it as being on (and the antenna stays up).

BUT there is also battery saving feature : when you remove the key, you can still turn on the head unit to p[lay music or to use the phone, buy only for about an hour, then they will be turned off automatically to save your battery.

RKH, thanks for reply. When everything is connected (amp is connected), whenever I pull the key antenna doesn't retract but stays extended, the battery drains. If I disconnected the amp, the antenna will retract and no battery drain.
Yesterday, took out the back deck and disconnected the amp. Without the amp connected I can turn on the ignition and the antenna will extend (no sound because the amp is not connected). Then when I pull the key (without amp connected) the antenna retracts as usual.

I guess the point I'm trying to figure out is since the antenna retracts as it should as long as the amp is not connected, then the problem is not with the key and antenna.
