I shouldn't hurt anything, just don't run out of gas.

You should have some idea how many miles a full tank will take you and can just keep track of that.

It flashes to tell you that there is a huge leak in the EVAP system, usual culprit is the gas cap loose or not tightened properly.

....as well as the line going to the charcoal cannister behind the left front headlight. If loose/broken/cracked, same symptoms of the flashing fuel indicator lamp.

Gas cap!

I had the same problem once in the while,it would flash even with a half tank of fuel, turn it off and back on it goes away,So i kept thinking it was a loose gas cap,but it would come on another day,so the cheapest and simplest thing to do was buy a new gas cap and tether from mercedes abot 26 dollars,That was a few months ago,Light problem solved, might have been a leaky gas cap,the rubber must have gotten hard and the seal wasnt good! Goodluck! regards speedmaster2

Air leak somewhere

You have a air leak some place you will eventually get a Check engine light. Check all your vacuum lines, i had the same problem when i bought my car. it was an unhooked vacuum line. do a few seaches on here and you will see the most common spots. Checl all lines to and from the purge valve.

My gas gauge was blinking and then after driving for awhile the check engine light came on.
Changed the gas cap it still happened and then changed the purg valve - problem solved.
Hope it helps.
