My understanding is that the attached pictures show a sunglass holder that attaches somewhere in the vehicle. My question is, where is this normally attached? And, does anyone have pictures of where their holder is attached?
This was actually designed to be placed on top of that with the help of double sided tape.
Well, nobody said it was a good design.
I guess the MB designers had a day off
It's a very functional piece. It keeps my sun glasses easily accessible without scratching the lens. Mine is located on the panel in front of the passenger seat just to the right of the center air vents.
When I bought my 99 sl500 sport several years ago (30k mileage, perfect showroom condition), All the interior wood trim was already installed. I have not seen another sl with all the wood trim interior. The sliding glove box top is also wood and the razor cut roll-up center compartment door, as well as the triangular door panels just opposite the side view mirrors along with door compartment lids and steering wheel. I do not know if these were a MBZ option, but it all looks very clean and original.
This is a picture of the opened center OEM sun glass holder, right above the climate control center vents, or in some cars there was an optional factory telephone installed in the same compartment instead of sunglasses, etc.
Does anyone have the same sunglass holder for sale(a black one to suit my SL500 black dash)??
without the lock, no problem!
mine is broken...
please, if so, let me know...
That's exactly what I was thinking
The driver gets a Mercedes Benz Star imprinted on the forehead, and the passenger ends up with a sun glasses implant to the face
RKH - Absolutely not. Its outside dimensions are 7 1/8" wide, 1 3/8" deep and 1 1/2" tall. I tried two different pair (Maui Jim and Ray Ban) and neither fit.
All of these questions and comments are exactly why I was asking the question. This thing just does not make any sense.
Yes, it is a hands off phone (quite fancy and advanced for its time).
It is actually consist of 3 parts : the push button hand free unit at the dash, the removable hand set plugged-in and stored inside the armrest compartment and a large box in the trunk that is connected to the antenna.
As storage space is at a premium in the SL, I removed the keypad and the equipment in the armrest.
There's another chunk of this thing in the back by the antenna?
Cec96,
There is no computer. It's just a phone type keypad with buttons like "send" and such.
What am I saying, yes, it controls the NYSE computers and the launch codes for America's nuclear deterrent. Be the master of your domain, by buying my "computer". $100 plus shipping and it's yours (disclaimer: doesn't control the NYSE computers or launch ICBMs).
Maybe the phone keypad might be able to jiggle the NYSE, after all, it lookes like the Deutsche Boerse deal might go through and they're probably good pals with MB.
I found it in the trunk to my R129 I just purchased. I understand it is dialog and without GPS which makes it useless these days. No carrier will hook up to it.
So this was in place of the glasses compartment, or just inside?
Funny, I just found this in one of my brochures. It was really advanced. There is bragging on TV commercials today about voice recognition dialing and MB had it back nearly 20 years ago.
I am kinda wanting one just to have the thing haha. RickP330, nice nostalgic find.
Yes, there is another box in the trunk. But as this is an analog phone, so not likely you can get phone service with it, therefore missing the trunk piece wouldn't make any difference if all you're after is the 'look'.
