I agree that looks really nice. How is the sound on the new system?

It suits the car very well, definitely period correct.

Sounds - overall very good, however, there are minor electrical interference to note, particularly when the MP3 tracks are changing when using USB drive. The system is a little tired indeed. So I will be replacing factory front speakers with CDT Audio 3 way components after the holidays, 10" Boston sub and I have 5ch Soundstream Picasso to drive everything. I just need a little time to do it right (bathroom remodeling takes priority for now)

And for today - I must say few words of appreciation to ingenuity of r129 owners on this forum. C-BOX is now gone! I now can have a bottle of water with me!

r129_rubbermade_cup_holder

Best $4.99 I've spend in years, so thank you all!

D

Went ahead and replaced both 6 1/2" door speakers with Infinity Reference 6032SI speakers paired to a Alpine IDA-X100 HU. Simple swap, simply removed the Bose speakers and installed these. Only one screw on each side is a bit tough because its partially covered by the door card otherwise easy peezy. The remaining components are all OEM Bose but man it feels like I went from listening to music in a garage to listening at a concert hall. Very happy, will replace the smaller door speakers as soon as I confirm they are 3" and check on any depth issues. Hopefully I can find some Infinity Reference speakers for there also. Thanks Tony for the guidance you provided.

Pulled off the 18" AMG wheels for refinishing over the winter and put the car on some Mille Miglia rims I had laying around. Sure looks really silly on 205 tires and 16" rims, especially from behind when you're used to seeing 275s on 18" rims on there. However, I really like the look of wide 5-spoke rims (they look like these: http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/...ub3/s-l225.jpg) on the car in a way...something like that in 18 might be great!

Pete - I'm seeing prices of about $330 for the pair. Sound about right? Also, sounds like wiring was easy as well.
Really that big of a difference, huh? I think I just added putting a pair in this spring. Number two on the list right behind installing the motor mounts I just got. Please post about the 3" speakers. I'd like to know.
And, is the Alpine head unit display visible in bright sunshine? Although the Continental unit looks great in the car and easy to read in in the sunshine, the technology is antiquated with no search feature, etc.

Thanks.

@RJ's SL , that sounds very pricey, I purchased mine locally for under $100. I was going to order a set of JBLs off Amazon but when I ran into these I decided to buy them. Installation was super simple other than that one screw, the screws on mine were Torx T20s.

Now I should have mentioned that the original Bose speakers looked a bit tired and showed signs of water damage so not a complete surprise that the sound is much better now. Just in case you are curious here are the JBLs I was about to buy. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...A2TGMCZ4O2P52Z I first read about these on this forum and the member was also very happy with the results.

Pete - what was your source for the Infinity's? I Found them on ebay for that price.

And what about the sunlight issue on your Alpine.
Thanks

Pete, good choice, these are well designed speakers. Amazing home much difference can these make!

RJ, unless your local shops have them in stock - 6032si model is no longer in production. Those ebay $300+ are dreamers! The only place I see have them in stock online is 6032SI - Infinity 6-1/2" 2-Way 150 Watt Reference Series Shallow-Mount Coaxial Speakers

I bought mine at a local Pep Boys. As far as the Alpine and sunlight it isn't bad unless I have the sunlight coming from behind shining directly towards the HU. It helps slightly if I change the display color from blue to red.

Dreamers, more like on drugs!
That's a great price. I think I'll pull the trigger.
Thanks.
