380SL soft top replacement

Hi all, new user here. I recently picked up a pristine 85 380SL that had been sitting covered in a garage for 15 years. I've been a mechanic for a long time and after performing the basics, the car runs and drives great. Even fixed the High Idle Hell thanks to advice from the forum.
Now it's time to replace the soft top and I've looked through at least 20 threads on installing the top and every one seems to have a different method.
Could someone please point me to a thread for the correct (or at least best) method? I've installed soft tops before on a 67 Austin Healey and a 71 Triumph Stag (yes, it runs and drives believe it or not) so have had some experience but the number of different methods is just baffling.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Larry

Welcome aboard Larry. There was a thread by Nobby a couple of years ago *that covered everything pretty well. You have to go through it a few times as there are a couple of very minor changes in method recommended . It's not rocket science but it took me a while- mainly because I stripped the old glue off the bars and that can be a giant PITA.
One thing I would recommend is to get the old one off without destroying it as it will show you where the folds are. You will also see how Nobby taped up the windows so they wouldn't get scratched but I imagine you've been there done that. Depending on which top you use you will find that the heavier Sonnenland fabric is fairly hard to stretch . I had to spray mine with water to get it clicked down firmly.Good luck.

Its in the Sticky section 67 Encyclopedia Germanica*
