Can't breathe!

Hey everyone! After having my car undergo some extensive rework in the Eberhaus Autowerks (AKA my garage), I have reached the point where I'm turning the key. The problem that I am facing is that the engine appears to struggle to get air. If I hold the air plenum open just a crack, the car will start and idle, but when I let go, it will stall. It will not start without doing this; it will start to run, but just stall out. I have gone through all the vacuum lines with a schematic and everything appears to be hooked up properly. To note, I had to remove the distributor along with much of the front of the engine to replace timing chain guides and to correct the previous wrong installation of the vibration damper, so I'm not ruling out timing, but the car does idle smooth when running. Thanks in advance for any help/ideas!

The plenum is adjustable, but is it out of adjustment? Have you checked fuel pressure? Good luck!

You might need to adjust the air metering screw if it has been mucked with to compensate for air leaks which you've correctly gone and fixed.

Turn the screw counter clockwise 1/64th a turn until you can get the car to start. Then adjust the duty cycle accordingly.
