R107 age

Hi,
Can anyone tell me a way to prove the age of my (believed to be) 1972 R107 please?
There is a data plate on the radiator holding panel which does have a 72 top right.
Recently bought the car and need to register it to my vehicle authority.

Many many thanks !

Loren

There should be a VIN plate on the B pillar left side which has both the VIN # and the manufacture date. You can also run your VIN on:

http://datamb.com

or

http://mbdecoder.com

Both give you all your options and the build date.

His is a right had drive 350SL 107.043. The only place(s) the VIN might appear is the stamped number on the upper radiator cross support and possibly a plate on the same cross member.

ROTW models do not have the Federal safety certification plate attached to the B pillar nor the VIN plate riveted to the A pillar. Tose are US (North America) models only.

Mercedes can establish when the vehicle was built. I think the UK is one of the countries that designate model year as the year the car was first sold/registered.

Neither of the links for decoding work with the older VINs.

What year does the ownership transfer papers (title) indicate?

When you bought the car didn't the PO give you the "new keeper" part of the V5? This has the date of first registration on it.

Also the PO should fill in your details on the V5 and send it to the DVLA, then you get a new V5 in the mail.

If you didn't see the V5 before buying how do you know you bought it from the owner?

Sl350 age

Many thanks to all replies, no thatís, right no id on b pillar as Rowdie explains. It is a right hand drive.

I bought the car on eBay from Ireland, I put a low offer in, and in all honesty didnít expect to be the highest bidder, anyhow, the previous car dealer had intentions to scam, the car looked great on the pictures and I did trust him as he was a dealer and sold a few older cars, I didnt make the trip to south Ireland from the UK as I didnít really think I would win it, The pictures on the eBay advert displayed paperwork, however when I received the car no paper work and a very rough running car, luckily it was only a crack in the cast manifold which I had welded. It isnít the car he described but it isnít really bad, rotten sills seems to be the worst. Now wanting to register in the UK from Southern Ireland DVLA require me to prove the age hence asking here.

Thanks for your help greatly !

Maybe the Irish equivalent of the DVLA can provide you with replacement paperwork that you can then give to the DVLA?

Hi all,

Still having trouble as the form to request the new log book requires a stamp and signature from Garda in Ireland.
As I am in UK
RF134 form says.
Complete the RF134 form and signed and stamped at your local Garda Station by a member of An Garda SiochŠna

Any other way of proving the year the car was made?

Thanks Loren

I don't get it... why not ask the previous owner to sort out the paperwork? For example how are they proving that they have sold the vehicle so they are no longer responsible for the tax? They must have submitted some kind of paperwork - perhaps they can just email you a copy? How can you prove you own the vehicle with no paperwork from the PO???

I found this: https://www.citizensinformation.ie/e...ownership.html

If that car was not as described and the seller won't fix it then why not open a complaint with eBay to get some or all of your money back? If it was advertised with paperwork then it should come with paperwork.

Did you pay with a credit card? If so then they may also be able to help you get some or all of your money back.

I also found some information on importing a car from Ireland to the UK: http://irishlinks.co.uk/import-irish-car-to-uk.htm. I hope you are not keeping it on a road while you sort this out.
