Beater or Showcar? What’s your preference?

Garage queen takes up precious garage space.

I’m feeling like the rusty beater I just drove home may have far more “smiles per gallon”.

I kind of want to just take my nicer cars and just stuff them in a barn full of mothballs and forget about them.

Have I lost my mind? Wanting to drive around <$2000 cars?

I have had an actual show car back in my 20's.

Great car, loved driving it, loved the attention it got. However, pain in the ass trying to protect the investment.

I've driven beaters my whole life.....great that I don't have to care about them....but no real sense of ownership pride.

I am currently driving fairly new DDs ...1.5 years and 3 years. I do like that.

The PIG is a 10 footer. Don't really take THAT much care but also want it to last exactly the way it is for as long as possible.

I've seen "The PIG".
It's definitely not a beater, does have some "patina" but she's still a beauty.
You take good care of your women

Cars exist to be driven. I'm thrilled with my new 166: it's in gorgeous shape with 4 years and 57K miles on it, but I'm not going to do anything but maintain it and drive it.

Same with my 107. I bought the car to drive and enjoy, not to sit and look at. I don't want a show car, I want a driver.

It's possible to go too far toward the beater end; looking back at die Rostlaube, it was barely at the driving end of that scale, and spent far too much time in the garage getting something or another fixed.

"Engineered like no other car in the world." That's both a bug and a feature.

My 107 is a driver. My wife accused me of wanting to make it a show car because I am repairing items that need fixing. I told her I didn't have the $, time, or talent to make it into a show car. I do show it at local car shows and it is usually the only MB amongst all the hot rods, restomods, and restored cars. It's kind of fun being the only MB at shows...

That's what the Great Barrington show is like.....all Hot Rods and then a line of 7 or 8 107s in memory of PetesMGA.

We actually draw a crowd.

Can’t imagine many here would vote for show car when it’s obvious we drive the shit out of these things. At least I do!

Always liked driving nice cars. In my youth, the cars weren't always showroom new, but they were always late model, attractive cars that were noticed by family, friends and strangers. As my income grew, so did the luxury and sportiness of the cars, and I never had a "beater". Spend too much time detailing them. Even the two SL's that I've owned were in very nice shape when purchased, and the 107 continues to be a bit of a garage queen!

You can't get us confused. I'm also "Nice", but NYYYCE is NEVER "Easy"!
