More nice pics! Nice looking 107s too. I have to say that the green one caught my eye too. That has to be a rare color. Samson looked great, and your pic showing the V12 stuffed in the engine bay is awesome. It had to be a conversation starter at the octane GTG. Thanks for posting, roncallo!

Was there something other than hood emblem and door plate that made the gold '86 500SL an AMG? I can't see the door plate well enough but if it is ///AMG I don't think it belongs on a vehicle of that year.

Strange he calls the car an 86 and it has the 560SL style hood with the pockets for the break booster. It also has a front battery and its vin number is a 107.046??. He said there were only about 12 of them made in 1986.

The R107 500SL continued through '89 and would have all the upgrades. That ///AMG designation was post Mercedes take over which I think was 1989. I think he is trying to fake it.

Whats also impressive is that John is so confident of his V12 creation that he drives it to shows rather than trailer it.

It MIGHT be an AMG.

But the owner sure wants everyone to know it....right down to those plaques.

Have we EVER EVER seen those plaques on a 107???

Thank You Carl.

That is what most people don't get when they ask me why I didn't use an aftermarket Engine and transmission control unit.

Mercedes, Siemens and Bosch spent millions developing hardened electronics for millions of customers. I don't consider my soldering skills with a Megasquirt or the design of the system quite up to that standard.

Although the wiring of the early 90's and AC control systems do challenge that line of thought.
