OT: Raining for days ... so I joined the "cable cutter" ranks ...

Been raining for days, and raining off and on for months.
Don't want to drive the SL's or work on them ... and bored, so I decide to save some
money by cutting the Cable TV cord. Monthly cost had gotten to $200
per month and a lot of the channels I surf thru I can't view - "Call to Upgrade".
Crap. Paying $200/month and a lot of non-premium channels are not
viewable!! Come on.

So, I took some equipment to the cable company (Spectrum) and dropped
kick my two DVRs, TV subscription, and Phone -- keeping just my
100mbps Internet at $66.00 that I started using to "stream" video content.
I have to pay $66.00 but Spectrum advertises the same service for $44.95 with free WiFi.
That sorta erks me that that price is for new customers only.

Guys, there is a proverbial "shit load" of video content out there ... a lot for free.
I already had a Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime subscription, so I added Sling Blue for $25. I've installed a Digital Antenna picking up 22 stations over the air. I found the Pluto app to be great, along with Popcorn and My Retro Flix. There are about 10-15 other apps having a lot of interesting content.
The wife and I are in information overload on what to view.

So, do you "stream"?
Any interesting apps you like? Legal ones that is :-)
Your thoughts on the legality of streaming? I see where Viacom has purchased Pluto - they must see something about the future of TV.

No “streaming” here. 2.5mbps is more like “trickling”.

It needs something. Our service sucks but the only other option I have is satellite internet.

I’m 30 and almost no one my age that I know has cable television. It’s an absolute rip off. I’ve been streaming tv shows and movies since 2009 or so. There is also tons of free content out there, you don’t NEED to subscribe to Hulu or Netflix, etc, but if you do, it’s very easy to share an account with a couple of folks so the monthly subscriptions fees shrink down to almost nothing..

Carl I did the same thing about 6 months ago but I went with two services...Playstation Vue and Philo. Also tried DirectTV Now and one other...I forget which one. Dropped satellite and I'm saving about $80 or so a month. Picked up a Tablo Dual Lite to record locals. With an antenna I get 103 channels...talk about overload. I also use MagicJack for my home phone.

I pay $56.50 a month all in for my cell phone.
I also pay, from another service, $56.50 for unlimited internet.
I also pay, yet again from another service, $81.90 a month for cable.
Shit cable.

It is next on the chopping block.

I will not get cornered into a bundle package or service provided email addresses.

Keep it all independent so you can cut and run with no fall out.

@rcrmonte3 , that black desktop Bell 500 telephone works and still sounds great.
I have a small collection of rotary dial telephones, including three pay telephones.
Worked for AT&T so I had an inclination to collect them.

I remember Saturday Night Live Lizzy Tomlin's one ringy dingy - she was a riot.

@frazierfrazier , takes a while for us old folks to adapt to this crazily changing world.

@nobby , Definitely "Keep it all independent so you can cut and run with no fall out. "
