Upper ball joint

I was under the impression that the ball joint of the upper control arm (year 86-89) can not be replaced. A few weeks ago I ran across an MB service manual (hard copy) for a 86 R107 on Craigslist and bought it. However a little research and it looks like nobody sells the ball joint by itself.

Yes the Top ball joint can be replaced as . I had to drill some pretty heavy duty rivits out, but the bolt on works just fine.

Here is the part:

$16 bucks, not too bad.

Here is what it looks like after replacement:

Also, I would replace the lower ball joints. If the top are going most like the bottom are too. It's a nasty job, but you would be suprised how much better the car handles.

Had to re-read the thread you posted the link to.
The purpose of this new thread was to point out that the Mercedes manual states that the ballpoint can be replaced, problem being Mercedes or any of the other vendor that I checked doesn’t sell the ball joint.
Maybe the moderators can join those two threads.
