The front signals are dual filament, park/turn. North America headlights have side marker lights also.

So far I have not seen any Affalterbach receipts. Only thing AMG in paperwork thus far is the parts price list from an AMG franchise in Illinois. Same one that came with my '84 500SL.

Totally true, still working on getting something more definitive.

Different wheels in first pic than others. Bbs vs rial. 5.0 spoiler and trunk handle means spoiler added. But it sounds like itís a 4.5, not 5.0. Correct?

VIN is 10702412021074 - having a hard time decoding it. Any help would be appreciated.

Not much to decode.
107024: 450SLC
1: Left hand drive
2: Automatic transmission
021074: Chassis serial number

"Engineered like no other car in the world." That's both a bug and a feature.

OK, thanks - VIN was coming up as invalid in the various webpage search tools.

That's because it's pre-1981. It was only then that the VIN was standardized. Further, ROTW MB products didn't adopt the full VIN standard for several years after that, though US ones did.

Any way you cut it, though, a Mercedes VIN isn't as informative as, say, a GM VIN.

That's pretty surprising. Would have expected Ze Germans to have a ton of detail in a VIN. I'll try to get pics of the data plates and door sills as well.

Anyone have any thoughts re. what a car like this is worth? A 140K mile, euro 1986 300SL just sold on Bring a Trailer for almost $26k, which surprised me.

One thing you can do to find out what the car was optioned with from the factory is to take the jack out, then remove the pad underneath the bottom end. Under that pad, the factory stuck a copy of the build sheet. It takes some decoding. If you find one there, post pictures.

As for worth, in these cars, everything depends on condition and documentation. The best thing you can do is document the hell out of its actual condition, including specifically any places where it's got any rust at all - or if it doesn't have any, document that, too. Lots and lots of pictures, especially of the undercarriage. Every receipt you can find, especially including anything that documents its AMG provenance (even if that's just having the AMG rep here in the US install a body kit). For $26K, I would expect the car to be in immaculate condition with full documentation of all service done to it, with nothing required, interior in perfect shape with no cracking, and not a ton of miles - but not just a few thousand, either; that kind of mileage indicates that there's major maintenance in the near future to replace stuff that's deteriorated from just sitting.

The more documentation, the better. You cannot have too much.
