Steam Cleaning Seats and Vinyl

Hey everyone,

Something I'm a bit proud of and ashamed at the same time: someone left a really nice clothing steamer on the curb in my neighborhood. Like the two HD TVs I own and several pieces of furniture, I grabbed it. Crazy all of the nice things people throw away.

Over the year my car's palomino interior has gotten nasty looking and I'm immensely disappointed with it as a color. I miss my artic blue.

Anywho, I recall someone saying that a gentle steam cleaning will remove most of the gunk on our vinyl (might have been Jayuma).

What's the best procedure for gently steam cleaning our seats and door panels?

MB Tex?

I would do the hot soapy water route. Steam would be pretty harsh on plastic. I have used steam on a multitude of surfaces. I have yet to be fully happy with the outcome no matter which surface. The clothing steamer could be mild enough. I think a surficant to release the grunge can do wonders. Do use a microfiber cloth.

I'm not so sure about steam cleaning vinyl (M-B Tex), but here's a couple of other ideas.

A BW thread with multiple suggestions to consider:

or, have you any experience with Adams?

Hope that helps.

I used a vinyl cleaner and VERY GENTLE soft scrubbing brush on parts of the door that had dirty marks. I think steam would be too hard on the vinyl. Also, the stuff MB put on the doors is not upholstery grade vinyl on mine.
