Lost in timing rail guides

I am lost in timing rails guides

ECP says the M117.967 has 2x the longer one (2x inner) and 1x the shorter one (1x outer). I have already done the right bank and wanted to do the left tonight. I first did the left outer one, I found the shorter in there and replaced it with a new one. Then moved on to the left inner one and found again a shorter one and that's were it went wrong as I din't have another new shorter one, but a longer one.

Looking at the drawing on ECP and the workshop manual the 2 inner ones look the same to me and only the left outer is smaller. It's also weird that the color of left inner is so much whiter then the left outer, looks like left inner is (wrongly?)replaced and left outer isn't, but who would do that?

Anyway, I like to be sure before I try so which one goes where? Left inner is the longer or the shorter one pls?

I did my timing chain guides last year on my 86 560SL
This is what I bought from the dealer. I donít believe the longer guide would fit on the outside location on the left cylinder bank.

Do you have shop manual page 05-340 "removal and installation of slide rails" ? I attach a copy just in case. You are indeed correct the two inners are the same and only the left outer rail is the shorter one.

@RLT61 : Thx, I have bought exactly the same rails, so no mistakes there.

@PanzerPuff : Yes, I have. Thx!

@all, then there is only one conclusion and that is that the left inner has been replaced with the wrong rail, an outer one. The upper rails & tensioner have been changed in October 1998 at 174kM (today at 244kM) but looking at the color differences between the right inner & left outer one compared the the left inner one I think more has happend here.

The car has been in service with German Motors in Sacramento CA for the last 10 years before I shipped it to France. Is there anyone on this forum working there who is willing to do a record check for me please?
