I'm redoing the vinyl on my lid cover and am missing one of the round washer clip looking things. What are these things called? I'm trying to locate one and can't seem to find it.
I replaced my vinyl this past summer. I don't remember seeing those fastners there. However, they are used on my name badge -450sl. (I made a gasket out of a bicycle inner tube for the badge-water was getting in the trunk)
They were hard to get back on, to grip once again after removing. If I ever have to remove one again, I'd buy new ones. They seem like single use parts.
"Speed nuts" got me a little closer in my search but can't find these exact ones. I'll call the dealer tomorrow and see if they have them for a reasonable price. If not, I'll make something at the hardware store work. Thanks!
Hello; I have a question about closing the soft top cover.
I have removed my hard top and the soft top is up. When I close and stow the soft top the passenger side will not stay attached, so it pops up when I drive.
When the top is not stowed and I close the cover ( the soft top is not secured and I do not drive it like this) the cover stays securely attached, I cannot pull up on the passenger side and make it pop out.
What is causing this? Is the soft top not stowed properly so it puts pressure on the cover , causing it to release?
How far down? The windshield twist locks are not below the compartment storage sides . I have tucked it down, but maybe it is not low enough. How far down is it supposed to sit?
I had this problem every once in a while. Then followed the directions in this ourSL, Chop, Cut - part 2
I made sure I press down on both sides, then engage safety lever and move bigger lever to locked position....
You had the issue of only latching good on one side? I am sure I have tried that sequence, but I will try it!!
It latches good when the top is not stowed away, but when I tuck that top away best I can , I can pull the passenegr side up...I cannot budge the drive side....
I did notice the soft top boot, where the hooks latch. The passenger side where the latch point on the hard top seems to be indented more than the driver side. Is yours the same?
I think mine was latching on both sides. But every once in a while when I went over a bump and the body torqued a little, pop up she went. I don't think that small safety lever does anything for the side catches, but I keep it simple and secure the lid and top the same every time. Both levers in the locked position. I'm not sure what you mean about indent,I'll have to go take a look. It sounds like you may have to make a cable adjustment on the passenger side.....
Okay, just took a look at mine. There is a small section of threaded rod with two stop nuts on the end of that cable on the passenger side. There is also a spring. Probably if you take up on that cable a bit and make sure that the spring is in place, that should take care of your problem..
I really appreciate you taking a look, but I already took some slack up on that, it did not do anything.
- Could you take a picture of you passenger side latch and the latch on your top? The latch point on my cover on the passenger side looks like it is ( maybe) bent in where the hook sits.
- How far down does your top sit when the storage well? The twist latch locks for the front sit a tad above the storage area when my top is in there.
Thank you for the pictures....
The twist locks for the front sit about that height when the soft top is in the storage area.
If you could snap a picture of the latching point on the passenger side hard cover ( where the hook grabs the top) as I think that may be where my problem is. It looks a little pushed in. If I could identify that by a picture I could order one and replace it!!
I tried the lever action and safety lever over the weekend and the top still doesnt stay latched, it slips right out.
As you stow the soft top, 2 folds happen. The first is in the middle of the window, the second is in the middle of the roof. On my car, I have to help the second (middle of the roof fold) by pushing it forward as the soft top rotates into the well. If I don't do this, it binds up and prevents the top from compressing fully into its folded state. This bulging prevents the top cover from closing properly.
This may not be your issue - just popped into my mind as I read your symptoms
I believe it is doing that, I will check . I tuck the corners in, by the hard top hinges and pull the material away from the sides where the frame collapses on to it. I also pull the folded top layer towards the back to try to get it to lower a little bit more. It still will not latch......But, If the top is not in the storage area it will secure tight....SO it must be something to do with the top in the storage bay
Does anyone know where I can get one of these? It is the latching piece for the Boot that covers the soft top. I emailed Autoazhaus to see if they can aquire the hardware.
Thank you.....I see you are from Galway. I was there in June. We stayed at the Ashford castle and saw the cliffs of Moher. We only stayed one night in Galway...
I hope you had nice weather and enjoyed your time here You probably drove close to my home as I live out in the sticks, and I usually go for a spin down the coast through Kinvara towards cliffs of Moher, spectacular drive!
