Yet another "what is my SL worth..."

Hello,

Im feeling the market as i just had a kid and am not sure when the 3 of us will be able to enjoy the car. I feel guilty going alone and cant wait for my parents to watch the kid to drive with misses to the beach. Anyway it is 88 560sl with 119k miles. California car, no rust, no accidents, carfax clear. Milage accurate. Paint is good-very good. Everything works. Interior is very good and wood refinished.
I spent 4 months replacing EVERYTHING on this car. It ran good when i bought it but im very anal and cars are a hobby so i did it all!
Suspension fully rebuilt.
Bilstein shocks
New ball joints
Motor new chain, cam sprockets, tensioner, stem seals, all air injection hoses, vacum lines, thermo vacum switches, water pump, water hoses, water tank, radiator, distributor rotor cap, crank oil seals,
Rebuilt the steering pump,
Rebuilt the steering box
Replaced all steering linkages, damper
Replaced transmission hoses
Replaced power steering hoses
Engine mounts and subframe mounts
Sway bar bushings
Transmission mount
Steering coupler
Resealed the diff
Rebuilt both axles (boots were staring to crack)
All rubber in the back, subframe, diff mounts etc
New discs in the front (brembo)
All new brake pads and fluid
New brake hoses
Various vacum switches and valves
New tires with less than 50 miles on them
Hood pad
All new fuel lines, 2 new fuel pumps.
Replaced fuel accumulator.
Replaced fuel pump relay
Removed gas tank and cleaned. Replaced fuel strainer.
All fuel injectors were sonic cleaned and tested.
Transmission was replaced 10k miles ago due to leaks. Still under warranty
Everyitng works and the car is like butter. It is smoother and rides better that my new subaru. I feel bad not driving it but when i do rarely drive it, i am amazed how it runs. It is perfect. Im sure i missed stuff and there is more!

I cant find anything else to do on it so that is part of the problem, i need to stay busy. I have receipts for $7k in parts and pictures of everything. It took 4 months but i had a blast. I either sell it and get a 4 seater or keep in a garage. I took it to alignment shop the mechanics were staring at it and could not believe how clean it was. Guy that did the test ride was amazed and asked if ill sell it.

What do you guys think?

Well ... we here certainly recognize the value of the work you put into this car.
And, it looks like you have thoroughly gone over it and with those receipts
and photos you have the new customer should feel comfortable about the
car mechanically. I assume the AC works, you have both tops, and the soft top
is in great shape. Color and condition also affects the price.
I would find your car very very tempting and would put a premium on
what you have done to it. Its certainly worth more than a similar condition "typical"
Mercedes 560SL. How about posting some pictures?

It does sound like you've taken care of the important items, and set the car ready for a decade or so of enjoyment before many of those things need to be done again.

I didn't decide that my family was too big for an SL until we had our third baby. See pics of my 5-point booster seats installed. A rear-facing seat might be near impossible to fit, but those two years go by very quickly. https://www.benzworld.org/forums/r-c1...ump-seats.html

If you plan on having more than two kids, yes, maybe start looking for a bigger car, but until your oldest is about 7+, they can fit back there just fine. I've even had two adults back there on a half-hour, each way drive. It was funny, but not terribly uncomfortable.

I would guess that your car should bring between $8,000 and $12,000, sadly probably closer to the $8000 unless you are really willing to wait out the sale. I think the fact that it has over 100k on the odometer kills it for a more valuable collector potential. What's it really worth? Well, many people would probably buy an $8000 car and have to put those $7000 of parts into it and have $15,000 plus labor into the car. I would think its worth well more than that to the right person. (You?)

I suggest you keep it and enjoy it.

I'm starting to think I should have kept my first one that I sold because I couldn't fit the family of five in it. It's been two years now.

I would rather pay $15-20K for this one than a 30-50 thousand mile garage queen. I too would like pictures. We love seeing great 107s.

Thank everyone. I am on the fence on it. I have benefited from this forum so much that I will happily share pics. Since I have been all over this car if anyone has any issues please feel free to run them by me. I did have a slight acceleration stumble when I bought the car. If you press the pedal lightly car would stumble until pedal was pressed more. It turned out to be idle switch on the throttle was out of rig. Thanks to this forum I quickly found and adjusted it. Here are some pics.
