Courtesy light switch, how do you reconnect back?

Hello everyone,I have a 87 560sl, my courtesy light did not work so I thought it was the switch so I took out the switch but now I can't find a way to put a new one on since the plugs are not long enough, do I have to take the center console out to put back these switch since I need to push the plug from behind to snap with switch? Any help is appreciated.

The switch is installed with a tab on the left and right side. Depressing the left side towards the right will release the left side of the switch. The trick is to do this without damaging the burl wood trim. I use a thin feeler blade to protect the wood with a thin 1/8" blade screw driver between the blade and the switch tab. You may need to do this on both sides if the switch.

Once the switch is out the wires can be pulled through and connected.

Other option may be to remove the glove box line and just reach in and connect the switch. I haven't tried this but I believe it will work.

Yes it should come out at least an inch or so. Sounds like its getting hung up on something, perhaps rearranged wire routing during a stereo installation.

Actually now that I think of it Stereo removal may be the best option to get at the back of the switch.
