I imagine those protests will be ignored despite their girth.

Some years ago I remember reading about China's Foxconn, the worlds largest contract manufacturer for electronics, and getting a long 'hmm' moment.
Foxconn had a high percentage of worker suicides. Their solution was to install netting under all higher floor windows

As a post WWII German, I benefited from American WWII intervention.
With pictures of concentration camps and the few victims of the Nazi's who were liberated and survived, the US owned the moral high ground.
Japanese likely feel different with echoes of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
But imo, whatever moral high ground the US used to inhabit in the eyes of the world, it has has been squandered and lost a long time ago.
Whether the cause was/is political ineptitude / stupidity, taken the Country into the wrong direction (Vietnam), or flat out inventing a cause for war (Iraq), so called experts can discuss ad nauseum, it won't affect reality or how other countries see the US.
Apologies for ignoring rose colored glasses.

Absolutely, the cognitive dissonance inherent in the belief that The USA holds some kind of fucking moral high ground is staggering, from the genocide of the Native American to the slavery of The Africans, it's treatment of ALL minorities, I mean people like Hitler and Stalin and Putin and Mao are like, "sure we're bad, but we ain't as bad as the Americans" Hitlers like "I killed 6 million Jews" Andrew Jackson was like, "Hold my beer"

We had a moment when we could have changed that, we had the moral high ground post WWII but we squandered it with empire building and greed, just as Israel became the evil they sought to escape, we became the evil empire we sought to escape

Seriously, the naivete' of this statement is breathtaking

How many wars has China fought since WWII? How many people killed foreign and domestic? How bout the US? How many people incarcerated and killed by police here compared to China? How many foreigners killed? How is the pipeline protests and Occupy any different then protests in China?

Seriously, Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, they are all as guilty and as dirty as Putin or China if not more so. If you can prove otherwise, do so. We have guaranteed constitutional rights until we actually try to use them, don't believe me, try speaking truth to power, watch what happens, try to protest, watch what happens.

I watched that show on HBO the last few nights about Chernobyl about how the disaster was caused by stupidity and greed and a subsequent cover-up by an embarrassed gov't, and it looked like the USA to me...

Gosh how could all those Germans and Russians and Chinese have been so naive to follow such corrupt governments? Jesus fucking wept.
