Meh. I had an old Ford Fiesta that made more smoke and dumped its oil and coolant on the pavement whether you liked it or nor...

We had DB's in the family. Those cars still sit on a solid steel frame, with zero movement from the body even when throwing the thing around corners.
The T looking 2 in 1 Girling fuel pumps were worse than Lucas
That was the old red transfer license plate after picking up the car from Auto-Becker, Düsseldorf, the nearest dealer/service provider 160 miles away.

That was my dad. There is a pic somewhere of a very slender me with my Iranian GF at the time. Later married, went through a few rough patches, but together to this day. I am convinced, had I a married a German girl, I would have been divorced a few times by now, add extra divorces had my wife be American (no offense).
Nevermind perhaps painfully losing a precious appendage, that's now getting closer to retirement

Nice pic! Closest anyone in my family ever got to owning an Aston was dribbling over one 😞

Yes those old DBs were fast and handled superbly for their day but on skinny cross-ply tires, live axle rear suspension, etc. And I wouldn't be surprised if something like a highish end Focus RS wouldn't run nurnburgringss round them these days. They're a delight to look at and drive still, no doubt, but times move on.

I also love the story about Henry Ford (Junior?) Showing up at Aston and asking the price. David Brown told home the retail price, which in 1964 was about £1100 (the price of a nice 3 bedroom house in London suburbia at the time) and offered Ford one for ONE thousand Pounds. Ford said he wanted one at COST not retail, so David Brown told him "that'll be TWO thousand Pounds then".

Oh. And like someone round here said... No cup holders

Oh. in 1968 my dad had the firsr or second Ford Capri imported to the UK channel island Jersey (which New Jersey takes its name from).

Colour? Silver.

THAT'S how close he got to owning an Aston 😞

I can't be the only one a bit annoyed how Ford appears to have permanently 'appropriated' the Aston snout / shape of the grille?

The big straight six Astons had a great deep sound. Even at idle, the office windows upstairs would literally vibrate.

Apropos Capri, the company we operated a joint venture with in Iran would frequently provide a Capri 3L during my twice a year visits to their Düsseldorf design center. That was a pretty nice and fast car for the time
The regular driver spent most of his time overseeing production and quality control at a Malaysian contractor.

Jersey, all I know its a tax haven, that the island sits at lower latitude than some of Northern France land mass, and that without the gulf stream the people around there and North would have a climate like Alaska and freeze their butts off.

Jersey's nice, if you're rich or were born there from a Jersey family (rather like "New" Jersey certain families control just about frigging everything that goes on, legal or illegal, on that island). Otherwise forget it.
