Question Is the ebay seller tying to rip me off?

The seller claims that it costs 79$ to send the middle chrome part for the w126 bumper, from IMuncie Indiana To Carlifornia Los Angeles. Does it sound very expensive?

If it's long he may have to pay a premium. Full bumper for my R350 cost over $150 FedEx ground.

Best idea is to enter the dimensions and weight on FedEx UPS etc. websites and get prices yourself. Or just tell the seller to foxtrot Oscar.

Sounds reasonable, oversize charges can be unpleasant. Also eBay's rate calculator is said to be geared to the worst case scenario, so you could ask if they would refund the difference if the actual shipping fee ends up being less. Shipping to a commercial address is often less than to a residence, etc.

Still, it's normal to be that expensive, even more!
Overseas is even more ridiculous.

This ^^^

Buying MB parts from Indiana when you live in LA makes zero sense to me, Rancho Cordova for example has a few square miles of junkyards for every car ever built, I'm sure LA has something similar, since the nickname for MB's is "Malibu Chevy's" down there (R107 specifically built still there's fucking Mercedes everywhere down there)

Doesn't matter what the shipping charges are, if you know this before you bid or buy what complaint is there. Don't fuck'in deal with seller, no one is holding a gun to your head.

Cheapest will be greyhound.
If that's a US and not W126 GenII Euro bumper, the part shouldn't be too difficult to find in the many L.A. area self service wrecking yards.
That's the reason local prices are quite low. I sold 2 sets of W126 Gen I Euro bumpers with excellent chrome for $170 for front and rear, an it took more than a year.
Same with a very nice SEC US spec front i would up selling for $120.
Put some basic tools in your trunk, check the 'service manual' in the bottom sticky on top, and check out some yards on the weekend.
The manual is free (disc one is diesel only) but requires adobe. It will even tell you the tools you'll need.
Cheers

Please complete your profile with car mod and location (at least general). Daimler Benz made different versions of same model/chassis cars for different parts of the world. So, to get correct advice on an international forum, location can be quite important.

Im not living in LA. Have a 560SEL 1989 US version but have Euro GEN 2 bumpers waitng for it in Sweden. The car is to be sent from LA to Sweden and is filling up the car with parts. So the parts are sent to my agent who places the parts in the car. I send an E55 gearbox for $ 75 from southern to northern Sweden. Sure, the prices can be different in the US though.
