Thumbs down Homeland Security...........EPIC FAIL

AP sources: Al-Qaida link in failed plane attack - Yahoo! News

Thankfully the guy was obviously an amateur.

WASHINGTON – U.S. officials say a Northwest Airlines passenger from Nigeria said he was acting on behalf of al-Qaida when he tried to blow up a flight Friday as it landed in Detroit.

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., identified the suspect as Abdul Mudallad, a Nigerian. King said the flight began in Nigeria and went through Amsterdam en route to Detroit.

One of the U.S. intelligence officials said the explosive device was a mix of powder and liquid. It failed when the passenger tried to detonate it.

The passenger was being questioned Friday evening.

Both of the officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation was continuing.

The motive of the Christmas Day attack was not immediately clear.

Why is it that every time someone slips past security with some sort of an explosive toy... Never detonates or something goes wrong? I mean... Seriously. Why?

I'm of course happy that it didn't go off. Yeaa, wopdido. But seriously, someone that managed to slip past that much security, surely knows how to assemble the explosives correctly? Something smells fishy.

I smell fearmongering...

Here's a guess: Ignition and triggering devices and chemicals are more specialized than incendiaries and explosives. Therefore, surveillance concentrates on ignition and triggering. As a result, people with bad intent have to circumvent that security measure, which requires less reliable ignition and triggering systems.

The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and thats what I intend to reverse.

What do you suggest? Have all foreign flights land outside the US for inspection before entering the US?

I think there is already a rule in place that prohibits setting ones pants a fire while aboard an aircraft.

No, any flights from other countries should be checked by our guys there or otherwise not be allowed to enter US airspace. Really simple!

What's next, another 9/11 via transcontinental flights?

Ha! Good one dude.

When we heard of " a new way to use the body to conceal explosives", we were rather hoping that the son of a bitch had stuck the ingredients up his arse and he's BBQd his brown-eye.

This shit has a direct impact on my convenience, so as liberal as I am in most matters, I hope he gets all that he deserves.
