Did you try to activate it again after an hour or so? When was the last time you checked your hydraulic pump system?

lordlee I have a roof rattle on the partners R171 although it maybe a boot one - its very difficult to tell. I have tried adjusting the black plastic tabs on the boot and also one side of the rear screen adjustment tab - no difference. I also checked the rubber bump stops in the boot and they appear to be the same height so I've left them as is. I have been around the roof seals with Gummi Pflege and they are looking to be in rude health so I'm a little stumped on what to try next. Any ideas please?

I opened it up using the two screws and slipped two pieces of large felt into each side. This was the best that I could do as I couldn't open it up fully. Anyway noise stopped immediately and you can't see the felt so I was happy.

I think the car should have been supplied with a roll of felt

If any one has a rattle from the boot I would try a test to see if it is the same problem as mine. Just tie up the handle using string so that it is closed and see if the noise goes away.
Hi Sagey,

I have the same sort of rattle coming from the boot when the roof is up and the separator is pulled out and locked in place - do you mean inside the squeeze handle is where you found your rattle?

IMDUCATI If it is the rubber seals (annoying squeaking, when the chassis flexes) use DuPont GPL 205 Krytox General Purpose Grease - 2 Oz Tube

the Gummi is great but only lasted for a few weeks for me. The Krytox will last 6 months +

Now I am running around trying to get rid of the rattles which is a combination effort of felt and tightening/adjusting all the roof screws and the trunk safety partition. Anyone try just removing the partition?

smiley78x Hi all,

I had the creaking problem that people talked about and apparently it's due to the hardening of the rubber which is in contact with the various metal parts. Someone told me that you can buy this OWS Body Flex spray (German brand). Bought a can for less than $30 (SGD) and applied it by spraying onto a sponge and then going over all the rubber points. What i did was to lower the roof which will allow access to the top of the windscreem then open the trunk which will allow access to most of the other rubber areas.

It works. The creaking has reduced significantly. I will probably do it regularly over the next few months just to treat the rubber.

I'm wondering the same. I just got this car last year because I love the R170 design. And this top is just noisy with creeks. It was limbed one time but it only lasted, I'd say a few months. Curious about the dots.

richard_leeds Here is a link to the MB technical manuals ... Bill's Den: Documents

And the specific one for lubricating the seals is ....
http://www.billsden.org/fileadmin/me..._77_30_30b.pdf

Apparently we need part number "A 000 989 36 60" and google led me to a german forum that paraphrases as "its a rip ioff, i use normal silicon spray"

So... what do people on here use to lube their seals?
