classyna Hi [Sco],

Just seeing your post. I drive a C-class that perfectly fits your description [C240, M112, W203, 2004]. Did you solve the problem already, and does your car now work fine?

Animanga008 I just changed the engine air filter on my 2006 C230 and decided to record myself doing it. I'm not a mechanic or anything but the process was super easy so maybe this video will help someone who has the same car as me

gpfont Is there a DIY illustrating how to remove and replace the air mass sensor?

Sco Great info. I have a C240/M112/W203, 2004 and I also have the black plug in the back instead of the red one people are reporting(different model?) and it looks like there is no dipstick... There are so many types of engines that this gets confusing if it isn't your exact model. My question is, where on this model do I put the topsider oil evacuator tubes? I have found a lot of videos and pictures that show different models but not mine. And everything seems really different. Can I just put it down the hole where the filter is? If not, where do I put the oil evacuator tube down, the tube in the back (that some are saying has a red cap and could also be my transmission fluid cap?) I really need a picture diagramming my engine. I checked my owner's manual, it only specifies where the oil fill cap is(and why is there yellow gunk on the underside of the cap?) To avoid public shaming(lol) I have read through the forums (and my owner's manual) for about 4 hours tonight and am unable thus far to find the answers that give me a feeling of competence. Any help appreciated. I have learned a TON here. Thank you

Not at all! Glad to help!
I can still see these pictures - if anyone can not - let me know.

You DO NOT need to clean the air box as I did...I just do things that way...Also, you may not need to cut the zip tie - again, I did / do as to not crimp or disturb anything - but this very well may not - and most likely is not needed.

Honestly,
Thanks to this forum i've been able to actually save quite a few bucks from DIY. The air filter removal is so easy, even someone as me who is not mechanically inclined... It was a sinch. Need the torx set to remove 4 screws, and the filter was some odd 50$ in Canada. I ended up changing it in a canadian tire parking lot, took me 5 minutes, all thanks to benzworld!

Remove screws, top, clean out the junk from the air box and push down to release. Put in new filter, screw it back together, that's it. Didnt really notice any difference at all changing it, however, i'm happy I have a new one in and didn't give the stealership 200$! haha
