Dudeman Thanks for all the responses.

Perhaps I should have been more detailed in my question. I'm looking at a 2012, the 2015's are bit more than I can afford right now.

My budget right now is about $15K-16K

2000 C280 Sport Mine has been great! My wife's daily driver. She loves it. Soft, comfy and smooth. Get a last year 2015 ML. Also, no airmatic if you are worried about long term.

Thatís good news hopefully it stays that way. It could be as you say just an issue with earlier model cars , maybe they have got it better in the latter years.

alpac I just moved from a w164 ML550 to a W166 ML350 and I am loving it so far. The ride is much more refined and the overall quality of the interior is better. While I went down in power and torque in the move the new w166 ML350 is still plenty powerful and torquey.

jaymaynard I've never had any problems with DPFs.

mattml430 Itís the Deisel particulate filter(DPF) that is the pain with all new Deiselís. The engines are great itís all the emissions shit on them.
Unless you get good temperature through them and run it by the book seems they give trouble after some time.

jaymaynard Well, having recently bought a diesel, I'll argue against Matt's statement...but in reality, as long as you get the 2015/2016 with the OM651 instead of the OM642 of the earlier units, you shouldn't have much trouble.

I don't have much wisdom to offer on the gasoline powered versions, sorry.

mattml430 I think youíll be happy with the change they seem to be pretty reliable so far. Try stick with the petrols and stay away from the Deiselís. To much stuff added to the Deisel engines for emissions to go wrong.
Mine has the air suspension with active cornering which has been good so far. Distronic and lane assist and blind spot. H&K stereo system is really nice.
I have 144000km on the clock, rear shock absorbers where changed at about 80 000 and all the rotors.

oving from W164 to W166. Anything I should look for?

I'm currently the owner of a 06 ML350, and luckily, I haven't had any of the typical issues that seem to plague those earlier W164 models (balance shaft, tranny, etc).

But I want to get something with a slightly updated look and lower miles (<100K). But I don't know much about these cars, and I don't see a buying checklist sticky. What should I look for, what are the gotchas, anything I should stay away from, etc would be greatly appreciated.
