Fonzi I will throw some counter-opinion out there. Learning HOW to do it is the challenge in my mind. What tools? What parts? The lessons can be learned the first time around. Once you know how to do it. It’s always easier the second time around, the confidence, etc. That actually makes me not mind doing things more than once. Do you use long life synthetic oil to avoid oil changes? Or do you enjoy going back and doing the job quickly? Me? I’m fine changing the brake pads on my wife’s car and getting faster at it. I’m not worried if the brake pads last forever.

But if you are doing a top shelf restoration on your car, then yeah, nice new MB rubber feels good.

ianrandom Mercedes is always better. They had their own quality control, so Mercedes Bosch for example is better than Bosch.
Its changing, slowly and the last bastion of quality there seems to be starting to ebb away a little. We've had a couple accounts of Mercedes parts not fitting properly now.
But for me it's still better than the unknown. Especially rubber.

Beware that OE term, its a bit of a popular term in the US and its often misleading to get sales.

Benz 1 Guess you can't win didnt realise lemforder were stamping Chinese parts
When you say OE are you referring to mercedes equivalents parts directly from mercedes
Most of the mercedes parts are also made elsewhere and stamped with mercedes
Don't mind paying for better quality bits as im doing the Labour but it seems expensive isnt always better
Eg lemforder ball joint kit £40 mercedes it is just over £100 but prob is lemforder

humblejoe If you plan on keeping it longer than two years, go top shelf. Unless you like redoing it, if it's some kind of Zen therapy. Then by all means go 100% Shenzen😁

C Cortez To paraphrase some of the more experienced members of this forum : " ... if you are doing the hard work, reward yourself and your car with OE parts.." -- specially for important parts like suspension.

Take a look at comments on Lemforder on this and other forums. The net sense that i get is that parts made in fatherland are fine, EU parts mostly fine. China manufacturers are a no-no. Getting back to Lemforder, it appears that they are now stamping parts manufactured in many countries, including China.

Given that we are saving a ton by doing the work ourselves, i err on the side of never having to worry if i have a good quality replacement part.

Benz 1 yes i will try get some lemforder parts as they are same as Mercedes original
I am literally stripping every single part and bush front rear prop shaft flex discs etc will use some lemforder some from Mercedes
does it make that much difference to the ride quality

rumb I replaced everything up front including shocks and the ride is fantastic. While in that area I purchased new inner fender liners as the old were getting brittle and who knows how much longer MB will provide them.

ianrandom Its a lot of money, but non MB quality down there is usually pointless and a waste of work.

The car will probably be amazing to drive with all new bushings up front. Its amazing how long the originals last, but they must be a bit on the harder side by now.
