Floobydust I believe that there is a fuse in the back of the instrument cluster that "protects" the instrument lights. It looks like a bulb but in a red socket. I'll bet yours is blown.

keeping all the indicator bulbs sorted is a bit of a pain, too. i suggest labeling them the first time you pull the panel, as you remove each bulb+wire

That will require a cluster pull, so get those hook things to pull it. It's not so bad. Just getting behind w/your fat, big hand to loosen/re-tighten the speedo cable is not that fun.

plinker17722 Then bridge the wires on the dimmer switch itself .But it will be bright all the time you wont be able to dim it . Replacement is easy remove screws reverse operation to fit back in place . The lights went off in my cluster . so i removed the pot . Only to find after i operated on it that the potentiometer had fallen to bits inside .Cleaned it and put it back, all is well with it now.

Blacked Out Instrument Panel

Instrument panel in my 1993 2.5 Turbo Diesel recently went dark. I replaced fuse 5 to no avail. Any ideas? I'm a very new Mercedes owner and am not quite sure how to proceed. Thanks!
