MB•David Right, here's the link to the CarPlay dongle I bought, the head unit(s) are mentioned and linked in many other threads (and my is too old for the link to be valid anyway):

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Carl...840142197.html

Arrived very quickly, worked out of the box, no complications, errors, etc, etc. Just follow the instructions (app first, and so on).

MB•David Hey zerrroooo

My apologies - just moved home, so been rather busy and tired, and missed your post somehow.

I'll get all the links, etc for you tomorrow, but a quick version is: no, you won't lose steering wheel controls, camera(s) work fine too - I have 3: reversing, side mirror and front one LOL.

The head unit I have, which is two years old, can handle two phones connected to it at the same time (maybe more, but I haven't tried), so again - no, you won't lose any functionality.

Oh, and my car is C169 (A-class coupé) - although as Awared said above, it's essentially the same as W245, just a different body panel kit.

Awared I have a standard 2 DIN Pioneer head unit and it works fine in my W169 (same dashboard essentially). I don't mind the non OEM look as I gain CarPlay in its place.

Dynamic sounds in the UK is where I get all the adapters/fascias for it (steering wheel controls work as well). It ends up being plug and play once you get the old unit off. Otherwise you could probably get a local guy to you to install it with the steering wheel controls, however you lose the display so it just shows no data when a song is playing.

zerrroooo Hey David,
Still cannot pm so I'm just going to send the message on this thread hoping someone trying to do the same can follow the guide.
First off, I've seen some of the contributions you have made to this forum, and I admire the work you put into your w245.
Now, I've been trying to recreate a similar setup but I've run into a few issues I hope you can help me with. I'm looking for a good apple carplay supporting head unit without compromising on steering wheel controls and the possibility of a rearview camera. I saw that you suggested to not by a universal head unit but to buy a dongle and connect it, but will that make me lose steering wheel function and the built-in telephone. Also, do you know any good head units that ship to Canada (Ontario) that can be plug and play

DEVOURS Go with what MB•David says..he has already done all of the hard research on this....

His time consuming hard work,.. and we get all of the benefits..

MB•David I'll PM you shortly, but as a quick and simple answer, for everyone's benefit - go for a top spec, model-specific Android unit (octa-core; 4GB RAM, 32GB NAND; hi-res screen) - it'll be about £260-£280, and buy a separate CarPlay dongle - from £25 to £45, depending on what type of current deal they have going - I bought mine for £25

I wouldn't personally fit a non-model specific unit, regardless of the make, as I can't stand those adapter frames / fascias - never ever look right, in my opinion (I had that in my previous car).

FWIW, I fitted my Erisin 9" head unit two years ago, and it's absolutely flawless. I have a Power Sound option in my car - with extra speakers and a subwoofer - the sound quality is excellent.

zerrroooo I took a look at some head units on Ali express and aside from looking unreliable i still could not find one that supports apple car play. I found a few head units that are w245 specific but with carplay, they become a small fortune so does anyone have experience with installing pioneer/ sony head unit in a w245?

Gammelvind Have a look on AliExpress, huge range there that fit the W245.
